Rimiki Jhimiki Jhare  – Rabindranath Tagore

We all know Rabindranath Tagore as writer of our National Anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ but most of us are not aware of his other works. I came across this poem during internet surfing and opening words ‘ Rimiki Jhimiki Jhare’ got struck to my mind. This poem describes the feelings of poet hearing sounds of rain. I have tried to translate this Rabindra Sangeet in Hindi and English as per my understanding of this poem and by taking help from online contents since I don’t know Bengali. The Bengali version is just copy and paste.
Rimiki jhimiki jhare bhadarero dhara –
Mon je kemon kore holo dishahara
Jeno ke giyechhe deke,
Rajaneete se ke dware dilo nara –
Rimiki jhimiki jhare bhadarero dhara –
Bodhu daya karo ,alokhani dharo hridaye
Adho jagarito tandrar ghore ankhi jale jaay je bhore
Swapaner tale chhayakhani dekhe mone mone bhabi esechhilo se ke –
Rimiki jhimiki jhare bhadarero dhara
Kālē bādala jaba barasēṁ chama-chama,
ulajhana mēṁ ā jātā hai mana.
Lagatā hai kō’ī pukāra kara, rāta mēṁ daravāzē para māra kara,
lauṭa gayā hō tōṛakara saba bandhana.
Kālē bādala jaba barasēṁ chama-chama,
rōśana hradaya karō, dayā karō prītama.
Sapanē mēṁ kō’ī sāyā dēkhakara,
kaccī-pakkī nīnda mēṁ, lagatā hai kō’ī āyā hai rāta mēṁ,
ām̐sū bahanē lagatē haiṁ madhyama-madhyama.
Kālē bādala jaba barasēṁ chama-chama,

Black clouds when rains in patterning sound,
Confused mind starts to hound.
Seems like someone is calling out, hitting the door at night,
Returned breaking the bound.
Black cloud when rains in patterning sound,
My love lighten my heart and kindness expound.
Seeing someone in dream,
Half awake and half asleep, felt someone came in night so deep,
Tears started coming down,
Black clouds when rains in patterning sound.
