Where The Mind Is Without Fear

Where The Mind Is Without Fear – Rabindranath Tagore

This poem is written by Rabindranath Tagore when India was under the British Rule.  The original Bengali language poem ( Chitto Jetha Bhayshunyo) was published in 1910 and was included in the 1910 collection Gitanjali and, in Tagore’s own translation, in the 1912 English edition of Gitanjali. It is a prayer to the Almighty for a hassle free nation free from any kind of manipulative or corrupted powers. But I am sorry to say that his prayer is still unheard. There is no equality, unity, strength and freedom which he was asking in this poem. We need to work hard to get that India of his and our dreams which along with our efforts needs blessing from almighty. So I am remembering this prayer of his with Hindi Translation by me. I am also sharing Bengali version copied from Wikipedia.org. In the English version some lines are not used by the poet from original Bengali version my translation is based on the English version.

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action;
Into that heaven of freedom, My Father, let my country awake.

Jahan man nirbhay ho, ho sheesh uchh atal,
Savatantra gyan ho,
Jahan nirantar viksit hote karm aur bhav,
Hamare hi aadheen ho,
Hai Ishwar! Aisi azaadi ke swarg mein mere rashtra ka uday ho.

Forever Magician

Mothers shower their unconditional love forever in our lives. Nothing is comparable to things a mother does for her child to grow and live a happy life. We complain when someone asked us to work for an hour more or to work on holidays but she relentlessly manage everything in our homes without asking anything in return. We are forever indebted to her for giving us this beautiful life. A poem dedicated to all mothers. Happy Mother’s Day.
You are a forever magician
If not
then how you manage monthly expenses in half the budget?
How you perform multi-task with hardly any gadget?
If not a forever magician,
then why relaxing in your lap removes all tensions?
Why caressing by your hand gives life elation?
How hiding your pain you shower affection?
How other’s need comes before self satisfaction?
It is not possible for a commoner,
to love when someone misbehave,
to cook when your body ache,
to defend when children’s safety is at stake,
to protect when problems attack.
Even God needs help of the angels to manage,
You appears to me above his lineage.
From nurturing us in your womb a magic begins,
remains forever helping us in each step to win.

Earth Is Calling

Earth Is Calling

We are blessed to inhabit this beautiful planet called Earth. Our mother earth have properly cared for each and every children of her by maintaining a balance between them and helping them to thrive in each other’s presence but like a spoiled child we have ruined the family, damaged its members and broke the balance of this big family. The mother hurts the most when family breaks and similar thing is happening to mother Earth, she is hurt, wounded and calling us to heal her wounds. Since we are responsible for her condition only we can bring change in it. We so called intelligent species of this planet need to use our intellect for its betterment.

When even a leaf fell down and comes to me,
I embrace it, helps it to regenerate again into tree,
You cut a tree a son of my soil,
clears the forest with earnest toil,
making me barren letting me doomed
I am calling to heal my wound.
A river swiftly flows moisten my skin,
Quenching your thirst washing your sin,
By dumping waste in her and shrinking her shore,
You are giving her diseases impossible to cure,
Worshiping making her happy? I guess you have assumed,
We are calling to heal our wound.

A gentle breeze, here only for your ease,
supports life on me for an unending lease,
Coughing and wheezing herself for fuel you fumes,
causing acid rain polluting food you consumes,
Help me! So healthy life I resumed,
I am calling to heal my wound.
With every puff of fume, with every tree falling,
With every polluted river, with every mountain drilling,
With cries of flora-fauna, with drastic climate changing,
She is wounded and calling.
Yes, Earth is calling to heal her wounds.

Kadam Milakar Chalna Hoga

Kadam milakar Chalna Hoga. (We Have To Walk Together ) – By Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee the eleventh Prime Minister of India is a renowned poet. His poems are well known and his style of reciting them was remarkable. This poem is an inspirational poem in which he is appealing to walk together without catering for difficulties to have a better tomorrow. I have tried to translate this poem in this post.

Badhaein aati hain aayein, Ghirein pralay ki ghor ghataein,
Pavon ke neeche angarey, Sir par barsein yadi jwalaein,
Nij hatho mein haste-haste, Aag lagakar jalna hoga.
Kadam milakar chalna hoga.

Let the obstacles come, Let the disaster be gruesome
Embers under the feet, Let fire shower make you numb,
We have to laughingly burn our own hands together,
We have to walk together

Hasya-rudan mein, toofano mein, Agar asankhyak balidanon mein,
Udhayanon mein, virano mein, Apmanon mein, sammanon mein,
Unnat mastak ubhra seena, Pidaon mein palna hoga.
Kadam milakar chalna hoga.

In laughter-cry, In storms, If in the countless sacrifices,
In gardens, In barren, In insults, In praises,
Advanced mind, emerged chest, we have to live in pain together,
We have to walk together

Ujiyare mein, Andhkar mein, Kal kahar mein, beech dhaar mein,
Ghor ghrina mein, poot pyaar mein, Shadink jeet mein, Deergh haar mein,
Jeevan ke shat-shat aakarshak, Armano ko dhalna hoga.
Kadam milakar chalna hoga.

In light, In darkness, In shore, In midstream,
In abject hatred, In son’s love, In momentary victory, In long defeat,
Attractive terms of life’s condition, our aspirations have to be molded together,
We have to walk together

Sammukh faila agar dhyay path, Pragrati chirantan kaisa iti ab,
Susmit harshit kaisa shram shlath, Asafal, Safal samaan manorath,
Sab kuch dekar kuch na maangte, Pawas bankar dhalna hoga.
Kadam milakar chalna hoga.
If contemplative path is spread in front,Progress without end what is now dead,
How happy joyful is labor flaccid, having equal desire for failure and success,
Don’t ask for anything after giving everything, have to adjust like water together,
We have to walk together.

Kuch kanto se sajjit jeevan, Prakhar pyaar se vanchit yovan,
Neeravta se mukhrit madhuban, Parhit arpit apna tan-man,
Jeevan ko shat-shat aahuti mein, Jalna hoga, galna hoga.
Kadam milakar chalna hoga.

A life fitted with thorns, A precocious youth deprived of love,
A garden expressed with calmness, selflessly devoting body and soul,
Life have to be burned, melted in hundreds of offerings.
We have to walk together.

Raju’s Chocolate

Rajan alias Raju was happy that day,
when doctor said,’ you may eat chocolate today’
Chocolate for which he always craved,
Chocolate in diabetes he unable to taste,
Permitted for one chocolate for his 7th birthday,
He reached the shop finding difficulty to be away,
Saw a boy staring from other side of the road,
A ragpicker whose eyes he could decode,
His eyes like him were gloomy without chocolate,
He crossed the road and went to him straight,
He split it into half and shared with him,
His desire was more than his whim,
He decided to give him a chocolate daily,
Boy’s satisfaction would pacify his belly,
His life with a chocolate wouldn’t change,
But with his pocket money only that much he could arrange.
‘Baatne Se Karar Sabko Aane Lage
To Ye Duniya Badaljane Lage’

If sharing started giving satisfaction,
The world will begin a transformation.

Letter of A Girl

This is a letter by a girl going to be born in India. This India’s daughter is asking for some explanations from God before her birth. Will she get her answer?

Dear God,

Your messenger came and told me to go there,
to India the country known for its heritage and culture rare.
But before coming to life on earth,
before appearing in my human birth,
I want to ask some necessary questions,
and hope for your thorough explanation.
The person you have selected to be my father,
is hoping for a son or is ready for a daughter?
lest he would try to kill me before birth,
and cancelled my only chance to see your earth.
I also need your assurance on wounds & bruise,
would I be safe from child sexual abuse,
See don’t think that I am a bit crazy and rude,
My concerns are genuine since I have only one childhood.
As a teenager would my future be secure,
or would a one sided lover attack my face with an acid pure
ruining my life for a moment’s attraction,
You must build something for their distraction.
Raping a woman have become a task of pride,
I wouldn’t want to be sweet in reach of flies’ stride.
I just want to be sure for my future,
People there have become some different creature,
I am a creative person, you can see I talk in rhyme,
so don’t want to be secluded as some one’s wife in my prime.
If you are sending me, send me to the world of equality,
and not in the world of crimes, insult and cruelty.
I have dreams to fulfill after my birth,
to be among people who understand my worth.
I am ready to be daughter,a sister, a lover,a wife and a mother,
but I don’t want anybody to be the judge of my attitude and character.
I think I have asked for so much, so direct ,
but I am a woman I would be happy with just some respect.
Waiting for your reply.
Yours own creation,
A Girl.
God don’t answer everything some answers he has left for us to search. Can we guarantee her a safe life in this country? Its Women’s Day today so try to find answers for her questions.

Holi Ke Bahane Aaja !

(Holi Ke Bahane Aaja !)

Holi is the Indian festival of colors which marks the victory of good over evil , the victory of Prahlada over his aunt Holika . This festival is also a festival of love and to unite forgetting all our differences. The association of this festival with Lord Krishna give it a touch of mischief and naughtiness. His Raslila with Radha and other gopis are also linked to it. Here I am presenting a Hindi song depicting this flirting ( sorry for the absence of music ) but Bura Na Mano Holi Hai . Happy Holi to all.

(Premi):

Preet nibhane aaja, holi ke bahane aaja,
Feeka pada hai jeevan, rango se sajane aaja.
Laal gulal se kyun gaal tere laal hain?
Holi hai karan ya meri tareef ka kamaal hai?
Bheegi-bheegi galiyon se chupte-chupate aaja,
Preet nibhane aaja, holi ke bahane aaja.

(Premika):

Dekhe zamana mohe,kaise main aaungi?
Preet to teri bhi hai,tu hi jatane aaja,
Holi ke bahane aaja, Rango se sajane aaja.

(Premi):

Aaunga mein to koi teri sakhi mil jayegi,
Dekh muskaegi, mujhko rijhaegi, nazrein milaegi,
Bhang ke nashe mein mujhe behekne se bachane aaja,
Holi ke bahane aaja, preet nubhane aaja.

(Premika):

Maanti hun baat teri, par mein aayee to,
Rang lange chehron mein farq na kar payee to,
Tere doston ke gale var-mala pehna aayee to,
Kehne na pade bhabhi ye jokhim mitane aaja,
Holi ke bahane aaja, preet nibhane aaja.
Such kind of flirting, naughtiness go on on this day which also helps in strengthening and expressing love.

It Was Just A Dream

It Was Just A Dream

A politician came, high on fame,
removed corruption ,poverty,rapes,
Opposition lacked any charges on his name,
cheaper are oil,onion,potato and grapes.

then I heard a scream and realized that it was just a dream.

A girl in a dress tight, on lonely road in night,
soon surrounded by so many men,
To help her in reaching home, they started to fight,
she reached home safely without any strain,

then I heard a scream and realized that it was just a dream.

A poor village boy, playing with a toy,
All children of his age studying in school,
Childhood is without burden and full of joy,
they all are happy, healthy and cool,

then I heard a scream and realized that it was a dream.

A small nation is in full elation,
As it is now free, world was free,
there is peace in the world and satisfaction,
World is growing like a family tree,

then again I heard a scream and realized that it was my dream.

Don’t bother, if now they are not  reality,
We will succeed, these dreams gives this surety.
